Thin-film filter glasses and goggles with specialized dielectric thin film coating provide maximum viewing with excellent protection. Dielectric thin film coating is a high-reflectance coating consisting of alternating layers of quarter-wave film of a higher refractive index and lower refractive index than the substrate. Such coatings can be made very specific to a reflected wavelength or, by varying the layers' thicknesses or film indexes, spread over a wide wavelength interval. This type of filter controls the spectral composition of transmitted energy partially by the effects of interference. Frequently, these filters are made up of thin layers of metals and dielectrics, resulting in high transmission over narrow spectral bands.
